The Autism Society of Oregon’s Lane County Chapter is sponsoring a Social Skills Class and Social Activity in Eugene for adults on the spectrum who can get around independently in the community. The class and activities take place on alternating months. The Social Skills Class is taught by Doris Germain, an Autism Specialist in the Linn-Benton School District. She has taught social skills at Autism Training and Support in Eugene. Her skill in teaching social skills has been learned from 20 years of working with people on the spectrum. GAINS (Grandparents of Autistic Individuals Need Support): Autism Society of Oregon started this group out of a need expressed by many grandparents. This support group meets quarterly and we are changing the venues to cover a larger population of Portland: twice a year we’ll meet in Beaverton and twice a year we’ll meet in SE Portland. We try to bring in a speaker for this breakfast meeting and have covered such topics as Sensory Integration, Special Needs Trusts and Biomedical Interventions.
